Ireland takes top position in ‘Good Country Index’

The Good Country Index is a new index which ranks countries by their contribution to the common good of humanity. And it's good news for Ireland – we've topped the list!

Ireland has ranked first in an index which considers countries contribution to the common good of humanity. We're followed by Finland in second position and Switzerland in third.

The Good Country Index is a new index which ranks countries by their contribution to the common good of humanity. And it’s good news for Ireland – we’ve topped the list!

Ireland is the highest ranking in the Good Country Index.

The Good Country Index used a wide range of data from the UN, World Bank and other major international organisations to come up with their findings which is calculated using 35 indices in 7 categories.

The indices which are related Irish Aid’s priority areas were among the top ranking. Food aid, voluntary excess donations to the WHO, humanitarian aid donations, open trading and fairtrade market size were all among our highest scores.  

We also ranked favourably with indicators for development assistance, and UN volunteers abroad
